This is Texas Hill Country

First of all... did you know Texas has a vast region of hills, canyons, and big lakes? I know some of my Texas friends are shaking their heads right now but coming from the northeast, my image of Texas was flat dry landscapes with lots of cattle... Turns out there's much more...

It sort of resembles the places we would vaction with family growing up in New England... the landscapes of the Texas Hill Country sort of remind me of Vermont and the lower, southern parts of the white mountains in New Hampshire. It is a bit different though... the canyons are stark, the jagged terrain has a feel of Arizona or Utah... I found that this was a really cool cross between multiple areas of the country. Not to mention the lakes and rivers cutting through... this region is simply beautiful.

We brought the bus to a place called Camp Fimfo in Canyon Lake, Texas (part of the hill country region). This camp site was more like a small town... it's grounds hold up to 6,000 guests, has roller coasters, water slides, a mini golf course, restaurants, concert stages, zip lines and the list goes on and on...

This place was healing... quiet...
Nature will do that...
Tucked far away from the city scapes and the stretches of interstates, Canyon Lake offered us a chance to be still for a while... and it was perfect.
Olivia and I did some exploring but mostly kicked back and took some time to recover from what had previously been a busy few weeks of music and murals.
It felt remote, a bit untamed and wild...

This was the true TEXAS vibe we had been looking for that we didn't quite feel in some of the larger metro areas of the state like Austin and Dallas.
As much as we loved it I don't think I would recommend flying to a place like this for a 1 week vacation... It's very low key and not much "to do" in the sense of night life and entertainment. However, for RVers, full time travelers or extended vacations looking to spend a few weeks... you might want to put this on your radar. This is less of an "attraction" and more of a change of pace... a different lifestyle that feels good to be a part of for a little while.
Oh! Almost forgot to mention...
don't leave Texas without some boots...
